Year 1/2

Year 1/2 Autumn 2 Curriculum Information

This term we are travelling to a different continent and we are going to learn all about Africa. We are going to be looking at the story of Meerkat Mail by Emily Gravett.

This is a book is about a Meerkat who wants to get away from his large family and travel the world. He travels around, but soon realises that the grass is not always greener. Here we will explore our school values of curiosity and tolerance of others.

As we learn more about how children in Africa we live, we will be asking ourselves: What would it be like to live in Africa?

In our science lessons we will be learning about plants. We are going to be planting corn, and observing it as it grows. We are also going to be looking at a variety of animals and categorising them into; fish, amphibians, reptiles, birds and mammals. We are also going to be indentifying animals that are carnivores, herbivores and omnivores. As well as, describing and comparing the structure of a range of animals.

In Art, we will be looking at creating a sunset animal picture. We are also going to create African patterns using acrylic paint. We are also going to create some 3D cardboard box animals.
