Year 1/2 - Thomas Barnardo Class
Year 1 and 2 Autumn 1 Curriculum Information
In Autumn 1, we will be going into an imaginary world of Dragons and Dungeons. We will be reading several books including Tell me a dragon, George and the dragon, The egg and many more. As you can imagine from these titles these books are all about dragons! We will also be going on a dragon egg hunt in our outdoor area.
In the classroom we will be using these books to encourage the children to write about dragons, we will also be talking about what the dragons look like and getting the children to explore different language we can use to describe them. Please talk to your children about dragons and maybe visit the public library together?
We love numbers in year one and two. Our aim is to continue learning about place value (ones, tens and hundreds) and how we can add and subtract numbers, we will also look at shapes all around us, money and also measuring in this first term. Can you ask your child simple questions about numbers? What number do we live at? What number is on that blue door?
Our topic is all about castles and we would love to visit a local castle this term (Covid permitting) This fits into our History element of our topic as we are looking at local castles and their history. Throughout our learning in this topic, we will be trying to answer our Big Question which is: What were castles like? In Art and Design Technology we aim to use clay to make a sculpted Dragons eyes, we can’t wait to do this!
Another area we are learning about this term, is how we should care for others and who cares for me. We will talk about families and also celebrations we enjoy as a family.
We have so much more planned for this half term which we look forward to sharing with you all. Please keep looking on our school Facebook page, class pages on our website and you will see class updates and photos.
