Spelling:

Spellings are taught according to the rules and words contained in Appendix 1 of the English National Curriculum.

In EYFS and Key Stage 1, children focus on spelling through ‘Little Wandle.’  From Year 2 (once the phonics programme is completed) children will have discrete spelling lessons every week which focus on the spelling rules as well as the age-expected spellings.   

In Key Stage 2, Teachers use the ‘Hertfordshire Spelling Scheme’ to support their teaching and to provide activities that link to the weekly spellings.  Children are given spellings to learn each week and are given a spelling test the following week.  

We teach the children strategies to help them learn their spellings and become independent learners.
